On Thursday May 18, 2017, the Chinese delegation of the Ministry of Health and Education and Unicef China paid a visit to the Trimbos Institute. Chairman Rutger Engels and Ionela Petrea, Department Head of Trimbos International, welcomed the delegation at the office of the Trimbos Institute in Utrecht.
The delegation wanted to learn more about monitoring, research, interventions, and implementation of mental healthcare among adolescents in the Netherlands. The delegation consisted of directors of the Ministry of Health and Education and others from different health and welfare institutes from China. Unicef China, the organizer of this working visit, was also represented. In addition to the Trimbos Institute, they also visited the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the Amsterdam Public Health Institute (GGD), the ‘Kindertelefoon’ service, and the Johan Cruijff Academie.
Monitoring and interventions among adolescents
The delegation showed considerable interest in the national survey Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC), European research ESPAD, the Basic Survey High School Students (Peilstationsonderzoek), and the international connections and work of the Trimbos Institute. Implementing e-health interventions and programs for young people also were of particular interest. The meeting led to interesting discussions about the differences in approach and policy between China and the Netherlands, as well as other topics. The delegation subsequently visited the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). This visit proved to be an interesting and productive meeting for the Trimbos Institute as well.
