Health Policy Internship

This position is aimed at a current Bachelor’s or Masters student who is interested in developing a career in international health and policy, and is keen on learning about ways of working with in public (mental) health and addiction care, to acquire a comprehensive understanding of working in international health policy and program implementation, to gain a basic understanding of project management and administrative support, and to become familiarized with communication strategies and networking in mental health and addiction.    

Main responsibilities

Support the Junior Professional and the administrative staff with communication and outreach tasks; Provide support to project managers in the management of a portfolio of international projects; Maintain the Trimbos English-language website; Act as rapporteur during various in-house meetings; Contribute to writing of technical briefings, reports, etc., as needed; Provide technical support with the organisation of international events and meetings organised by the Trimbos; Carry out basic research tasks such as brief literature reviews; and Be responsive to ad-hoc and emerging work responsibilities, including research tasks.


Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, International Health or Public Health, preferably focused on the topics of mental health, addictions or tobacco control; Bachelor’s in social sciences or related fields; Fluent in English and Dutch, other languages considered as an asset; Good knowledge of public health covering mental health, health services, ageing, addictions, tobacco control; Excellent writing skills in English are required and must be demonstrated through prior writing samples/publications/reports; Interest in hands-on work including organization of trainings, congresses/ conferences, and fundraising; Basic research skills; and A ‘can-do’ attitude and strong interpersonal skills.

The Trimbos Institute conducts research on issues related to mental health and addiction. The experts at the Trimbos Institute put research findings into practice to support policymakers, educators, and professionals who provide mental health and addiction services.

The Trimbos Institute develops, implements, and disseminates a full range of information, research findings, and policy advice on mental illness, addictions, recreational drugs, and alcohol for a diverse set of stakeholders, such as clients, caregivers, service providers, decision makers, and the general public. This information includes health education information, academic reports and journal articles, training manuals and courses for healthcare professionals, and guidelines for policymakers.  Researchers and specialists from Trimbos work according to disease management models, centering on collaborative, client-centered, evidence-based, coordinated care. The Trimbos Institute focuses on monitoring, prevention, and treatment, and on the quality and organization of care.
