International Mission
The Trimbos Institute promotes the application of knowledge in policy and practice in the mental health care, addiction and social care sectors.
Individual health gains in society can be achieved by improving mental health and addiction services, using effective treatment methods and implementing models for efficient services. With a focus on knowledge sharing, the Trimbos Institute promotes innovative, evidence-based activities and facilitates their implementation in professional settings.
International collaboration
The Trimbos Institute works with universities and institutes at home and abroad. As a leading centre of excellence, the Trimbos Institute participates in several national and international consortia in the fields of mental health and addiction.
How we work abroad
Most international projects are coordinated by our International Affairs Unit. Projects have limited time spans (1-3 years) and are designed to synthesise and transfer theoretical knowledge and practical know-how.
The aim of most projects is to enhance the capabilities of local experts and structures. After an initial implementation phase, the local staff are able to independently maintain and further develop activities, interventions and facilities. Projects are based on the best available and evidence-based Dutch and international practices. These are translated into tailor-made local approaches with clear benchmarks and output indicators.
A needs assessment is made at the start of each project, followed by a development plan which includes requirements for human resources and expertise. In many projects additional experts are engaged for the short or longer term, depending on their qualifications and the input required.
Projects abroad are always supervised by a staff member from the Trimbos International Affairs Unit; Local level project managers are often appointed as well. If continuous Trimbos staff involvement is required, a resident project advisor is based abroad.
