Longer-term effectiveness of the Individual Placement and Support model (Scion I and II)

Objective:
The purpose of this study is to assess the 2.5-year clinical and cost-effectiveness of the Individual Placement and Support model (IPS). IPS supports people with persistent mental health issues in seeking and sustaining competitive paid employment. IPS differs from conventional vocational rehabilitation approaches particularly in its focus on a rapid search for competitive jobs, in the long-term support it provides after employment begins, and in the cooperation and integration between the IPS supervision and the rest of the treatment and guidance network. Scion is a randomised controlled effectiveness study of IPS in which participants seeking guidance to paid employment have been randomly assigned to either an IPS pathway or a more conventional vocational rehabilitation pathway. The principal outcome measures are the securing of competitive paid employment and the duration of the employment. Additional measures are the cost-effectiveness of IPS and its effects on quality of life, self-esteem and social functioning. Scion I, the original study, contained a baseline and 2 follow-up assessments at 6 and 18 months; Scion II follows the participants an additional year and makes a third follow-up assessment at 30 months.
Final result:
Knowledge of the effectiveness of the IPS vocational reintegration model. Newsletters and interim reports will be written and articles will be published in Dutch professional journals and international academic journals.
