Encouraging health promotion for drug users within the criminal justice system

This publication was the result of an international project to which many people from European addiction services contributed. They collected and compiled a variety of information about health promotion for drug users in prisons. The book contains information on drugs, on the risks of drug use and on infectious diseases associated with drug use, as well as on risk reduction strategies for prison staff and inmates. It additionally describes training modules designed for prison staff and prisoners to increase their risk awareness and encourage risk-reducing behaviours. The manual can be used in train-the-trainer courses or as background material for individual or group education activities aimed at prisoners or drug prevention workers within the prison system.
