STIVORO, the Dutch expert centre for tobacco control, and the Trimbos Institute have started the campaign ‘Meer lol met self control’ (‘More fun with self control’) aimed at young adults.
The campaign wants to make young people more resilient and prevent them from choosing to smoke, use marijuana or drink (excessively). In the campaign local, regional and national organisation cooperate as important partners to spread the campaign’s message in the best possible way.
The campaign is aimed at young people between 14 and 18 years old and encourages them to make an individual (healthy) choice about drinking, smoking and using marijuana. The campaign’s message is:
- choose not to drink (or to drink in moderation), not to smoke and not to use marijuana
- making a healthy choice will give you a positive image
- respect it when your friends make this choice
The campaign focuses on the (short-term) consequences of young people choosing whether or not to drink (excessively), smoke or use marijuana. Through a social media platform strategy they are told that the only one making this choice is you and not your environment. It becomes clear that you’ll have more fun if you stay in control of yourself. Therefore: more fun with self control. The website with the videos can be seen at selfcontrol.nu.
