The digital selector for schizophrenia is now available for people with psychotic disorders and their families. This instrument supports them in making important decisions.
A digital or electronic selector informs clients and their relatives about a disorder and helps them, together with a health professional, to make the best care choices.
In recent years, a working group consisting of representatives of client and family associations and professional associations worked on developing the digital selector. The project was supported by the Trimbos Institute.
Expertise by experience
The selector was developed on the basis of scientific research and the new Schizophrenia Guideline. In addition, interviews were conducted with clients, their next of kin and care professionals of both native Dutch and non-native origin. This led to the conclusion that expertise by experience is important for the selector.
The new digital selector for schizophrenia deals with various life issues: mental health, somatic health, family and friends, work, study and leisure time, alcohol and drugs, living circumstances, money matters as well as rights and obligations.
For each life issue, the selector describes problems that can arise, what the individual can do about it and where they can find support. Furthermore, for each life issue there is a section where clients, their families and carers can compare their personal options. In this way, the selector can provide support in discussion these options, in order to contribute towards the right decisions being made.
